2020 Safety Inspection

I called one of my USCG Aux shipmates, a qualified vessel examiner, to come over to the house and inspect my boat while it was parked in the driveway. The USCG Aux (and also US Power Squadron) runs this safety program, which is a courtesy inspection on all of the safety items on the boat. This is a great public education activity (one on one dialog with the examiner), and have all your questions answered. All of the required and optional safety items, per the length of your boat, are verified to be in good working order. Most people just think life jackets and lights, but the inspection also verifies distress markers (flags and flares), anchors (I carry 2), first aid kits, radios, GPS and all the gear you may have to safely run your boat. Good idea to get your boat inspected, and it's free. The BOATUS Inspection sticker mounted on the port side clearly indicates to law enforcement that your got your stuff together on your boat.

First became acquainted with trimaran sailing boats in the late 70s  while on a trip to Miami, riding converted Hobie 16 beach cat hulls that were added to a crafted center hull. Later discovered the rich history of multi-hulls and design from the writings of Jim Brown, Chris White and others.

This blog is will chronicle explicita, past exploits of discovery, sailing nuances and characteristics, plus after market modifications, and sailing adventures on the Astus 20.2 XL model named "Embouchure".
