A Day Out at Anclote Key
Setting anchor at the north end of Anclote Key.
Dee and I were planning to meet up with the trailer sailing squadron at Lake George on the St. Johns River. While planning, the weather predictions were decent. However, on the day to go out the rain chances increased to 60-70%, so we switched to plan B. In sailing, I think one is forever working under plans B. We were planning a overnight on the boat together and that would have been a first, but will have to wait for another more favorable time.
Umbrella for shade on hot sunny day.
We heading out to a local ramp at the Anclote River near Tarpon Springs, and set sail for Anclote Key for a picnic and some fishing along the way. At this time, the southern Gulf shores and bays are plagued with toxic red tide algae bloom from K. Brevis and also a blue-green algae bloom from water releases from Lake Okeechobee. My friend Ricky notes that it's not pretty at the Ft. Myers area beaches and waterways. But at the north end of Anclote Key, water was very clear, and quite warm.
Dee and I had not been out together on the tri for some time. Nice to get away for the day, float along in light winds, listen to good tunes all day and fish some. Although the tide guides noted all the good karma for fish activity, we did not see any action. Other boaters appeared not to getting any strikes as well. But the time for us spend on the water and beach was time well spent.
