Sarasota Buzzelli Multihull Rendezvous

Third weekend in October at the Sarasota Sailing Squadron, is the annual Buzzelli Multihull Regatta attracting big and small trailer-able tris and cats. This year seemed to be a bit more subdued than previous years. Windrider had a very sizable fleet of WR17s, most of which were registered to race. I brought the s/v embouchure down for demo sails. This event also coincides with the West Coast Trailer Sailing Squadron trip to Cayo Costa. Since I was already planned to go to Cayo Coast with other friends in Nov., I thought the Sarasota trip would be nice. SSS is an excellent public yacht club and the bay and gulf sailing is very scenic.

Did not register the Astus 20.2, as there are no similar classes and would then be placed in with the bigger 27s and 32 tris, way out of my league and don’t have a PHRF rating for the boat. Really only had one demo sail with a friend who drove down from St. Petersburg on Friday. Later in the afternoon, we got out on the bay in about 12 to 15 knot NE winds. Once out on the bay we shot up northwards on a fast and long reach, at anywhere from 11 to 14 knots. That was a nice long hot sail. While my friend maned the helm, this gave me pause to put eyes aloft and maintain the sail trim plus get out on the tramp for some ballast. That was a fun afternoon.
Saturday, had no demo sails so packed up the boat and went home. Would have gotten more sailing time if I had gone to Cayo Costa with the WCTSS.
