Florida 120 day 4, Sunday 5/21

What a difference a day makes. Storms ended sometime early morning and finally was able to get a bit of sleep. Next morning did not find too much for wetness that crept in with the night, some drips not much. Checked in with the other guys on the beach. Some fresh water in the bilge, some more that others, but generally all’s well. Name of the game was to pack up and motor 2 NM to the launch. Could have been a hundred if traveled yesterday.

After coffee, I got ready to make the akas telescope in for narrow beam to make the ramp retrieval. Got it all tucked in, stuff stowed, and prepared go get underway. Check-in with JF as he was working on morning coffee as well. Not much water taken in last night due to the umbrella. Stowed that on my boat and made way to motor over. Wind was very light, JF was going to sail and row.

Got the Astus on the trailer with the amas in. I another first for this tri on this trip, employed a slightly different retrieval method in aligning the amas to the trailer landing pads. Usually get the boat on the trailer and get two ratchet straps on the forward akas before to fully pull out of the water. This is a bit of protection against tip over before to get the boat on land, then telescope the amas in on to the landing pads. Still strapped the akas this time with the amas on the pads.

Got the boat de-rigged, stuff thrown in the pickup bed, and prepared to make way for the road trip home. JF went to each lunch in Pensacola. I took my time making ready for travel. We did rendezvous about mile 50 on I-10 and then a pleasant drive back to Pinellas County.

First became acquainted with trimaran sailing boats in the late 70s  while on a trip to Miami, riding converted Hobie 16 beach cat hulls that were added to a crafted center hull. Later discovered the rich history of multi-hulls and design from the writings of Jim Brown, Chris White and others.

This blog is will chronicle explicita, past exploits of discovery, sailing nuances and characteristics, plus after market modifications, and sailing adventures on the Astus 20.2 XL model named "Embouchure".
